About the artist

Casey Alan Shaw brings more than thirty years experience to his latest artistic endeavor: A series of graphic portraits that reflect the influence of northern California designer Michael Schwab and western pop artist Bill Schenk, along with a healthy dose of vintage poster artists who Shaw admires that experimented with design and flat pure color from Ludwig Hohlwein to the Vienna Secessionists to 1930s-era travel posters.

Shaw holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with honors, from the University of North Texas and a Master of Fine Arts from Syracuse University. For almost twenty years, the artist worked full-time at USA Today as Creative Manager for USA Weekend Magazine where he received dozens of national awards for illustration and design, including recognition from the National Headliner Awards, the Society of Publication Designers, the Clarion Awards, the Print Regional Design Annual and American Graphic Design Awards from Graphic Design USA Magazine. He's also helped judge national design competitions, including contests for the City & Regional Magazine Assn., the American Jewish Press Assn. and the American VFW.

You can see Casey Shaw's work in person at the Art First Gallery in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Shaw's graphic portrait of Pope John Paul II, adapted as the cover for a special Christmas issue of USA Weekend Magazine, received an American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design USA Magazine and was exhibited in several venues in the Washington, DC area as part of the annual Illustrators Club of DC/Maryland/Virginia show.

More recently, Casey's portrait of Satchel Paige graced the cover of Whurk, a local arts magazine.
